Youth Climate Corps BC
Elevating the voices of those most affected by climate change is the only way to effectively tackle the climate crisis. The Youth Climate Corps was launched in 2020 as an initiative by Wildsight, a grassroots organization focused on protecting biodiversity and promoting sustainable communities in the Columbia and Rocky Mountain regions of Canada. The first program took place in Nelson, BC, where fourteen young crew members spent four months working on various climate-related projects in the surrounding West Kootenay area.
BC Water & Waste Association Student Design Competition
Since 2013, the BC Water & Waste Association (BCWWA) has held an annual design competition for postsecondary students in British Columbia. The competition encourages students to use their academic knowledge to address real-world water and wastewater challenges, while also developing leadership and communication skills and fostering innovation in the water sector. This year's competition is in partnership with the City of Coquitlam, featuring an exciting project to evaluate the feasibility of various green and grey infrastructure solutions to enhance stormwater runoff quality in the Nelson Creek Watershed, located downstream of Blue Mountain Park.
The WEF Student Design Competition gives students hands-on experience in designing solutions for real-world water and wastewater issues. Organized by WEF’s Students and Young Professionals Committee (SYPC), it challenges individuals or student teams to create and present a design aimed at solving a specific water quality problem, helping to prepare them for careers in water-related fields.
